I take the “g” from gnaw, the “w” from two,
And amass quite a few dozen more.
Now it is time for me not to speak out
So just sit back and read what is in store.
The silent letters that astound and confuse
I have used to write each and every word
So I take this opportunity and hereby present
The first poem that can be seen and not heard.
At some future time, you might observe
What looks like me, just standing around.
Don’t be perplexed because it is probably true
I’m reciting the poem not having a sound.
To the power of letters let this poem now stand
As a silent witness quite absolute,
After all it, with just one single letter
I can turn a muse into a mute.
